We are all running on the Lord's time!

As many of you know, Bret and I have been waiting to adopt a baby for a while now. We learned a long time ago that the Lord has his own timeline for each of us. We told Miller at the beginning of the year that we needed to pray everyday as a family for a baby, and the Lord would bring us a baby. The year was coming to an end, Miller was questioning if we were praying enough, because we didn't have a baby and everyone else did! Tuesday morning, I was working at the hospital in Labor and Delivery assisting in a c/section. I found out shortly before the case, the mother was placing her child for adoption, but hadn't started the process. The social worker asked if anyone knew a family looking for a baby. Every nurse and even the doctor sitting there pointed in my direction. She asked if I were serious and I told her I was approved and waiting through LDS Family Services. So that is the agency she called for the adoption. The social worker found me a little later to inform me that the agency was called, but that she couldn't designate us as the family. They would choose the family that had been waiting the longest. As I was getting ready to leave to go home, Bret got a call from our case worker informing him that a baby had been born that day and we had been selected as the family. apparently this mother was given several profiles, our included, and she chose us. When I got home, Bret and I were discussing the situation. This child was exposed to some serious health conditions and possibly drugs. We were talking about whether or not we could take on a child with these problems. We decided that the best place to make this choice was the temple. We barely made it there. As I sat through the endowment session, I was praying so hard to have the confirmation to know that this child was meant for our home. A couple that we know was attending this session as well. The husband is deaf and so there was closed captioning for the session so he could follow along. About halfway through, the system wasn't working and there just happened to be a sister that knew how to sign for this gentleman so he could finish the session. As I watched that sister sign, I was so overcome with the spirit. I knew that had I given birth to this child myself, I would be okay with whatever ailment the child might have had. I knew that this child was meant for our home at this time. I couldn't wait to meet up with Bret in the Celestial Room and see what confirmation he had received. Of course, he was the first one into the Celestial Room and I was the very last, and it was full! I found Bret visiting with his brother Ryan when I finally made it through. We didn't even need to say anything. We knew this baby was ours. And the rest as they say is history. I have such a testimony that the Lord is aware of each of us. We are all given our own trials for our own benefit and the benefit of others. I am so thankful that we have the temple to clear our minds and bring us the knowledge that we desire in our times of need. Thanks Jessica for putting this blog together. I am sure that more and more people will contribute. I know I check it all the time waiting to see what is happening in eveyone elses lives. We love you all and thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. You were all a part of finding our miracle!

Love,

Bret, Wendy, Miller, and Porter (I still can't believe there are four of us now!)

  2. Your prayers were answered, what a beautiful experience. Thank you for sharing. I have always wondered why such wonderful people are not able to have children and a bunch of not so wonderful people are able. It seems so unfair. But, I was finally humble enough to get my answer. There are so many children that are born in bad circumstances and god is aware of all of us. I believe he is placing them, with loving parents who will raise them in the gospel and teach them to know there savior.
